More changes to Google Voice.

It seems that Google Voice has rolled out some new changes that are impacting some of our users.

For users who have a separate Google Voice account for use with GvGateway nothing has changed. In this case one Google Voice account sends the text messages and another (the users primary) Google Voice account receives the messages, everything is still working just as it always has.

Users who have used there primary Google Voice account with GvGateway have always had the issue of messages show up twice in there Google Voice inbox. The first was the sent message and the second was the received message. Google has recently rolled out a change so that if you text yourself using Google Voice the message never shows up in your inbox. If you look in the history folder the message is there but it never gets to the inbox. The result is users who configured the GvGateway service this way are not seeing there messages show up in the inbox.

We are investigating ways to address this and will update users as soon as we have news.

Back up and running

GvGateway.net is back up and running. We apologize for the extended outage but we experienced several hardware failures. We are looking into ways to provide more redundancy and better up time in the future.

Large Volumes of Messages

Some users seem to be using scripts to generate emails and at times we have seen a very large numbers of SMS messages in a very short amount of time from a single user. Some users have generated upwards of 100 messages in 5 minutes using a single GvGateway.net account (and hence a single Google Voice account). While GvGateway.net does not currently impose any limits on the number of messages a user can send, it appears that doing so will result in additional messages failing to be sent by Google Voice. We suspect that Google is locking out accounts that exhibit this behavior for a period of time.

Our current estimate is that sending more than 100 SMS messages on a single Google Voice account in a 5 minute period results in the account being unable to send additional messages for 24 hours.

Please keep in mind that GvGateway.net users use there own Google Voice account to send SMS messages and that your use of Google Voice should always conform to the Google terms of service.
