GVGateway.net Beta Update

After a few early issues the GVGateway.net site seems to be running well and messages appear to be flowing.

Having noticed that a number of the bounced emails that were rejected had a leading 1 prefixed to the 10 digit phone number, I have modified the scripts to allow either 10 digit phone number or an 11 digit number with a leading 1. This will match what other email gateway sites for many carriers do and result in fewer rejected emails.

GVGateway.net Beta Launched

GVGateway.net (http://GVGateway.net) is a Email to SMS gateway primarily designed for Google Voice users. Most cellular services provide a gateway service that accepts email and forwards it to a cell phone as a text message (SMS). For instance if you are an AT&T customer and your cell phone number is 800-555-1212 you can send email to 8005551212@txt.att.net and it will be forward to you cell phone as a text message (SMS).

Until now there has not been such gateway for users of the free Google Voice text messaging service. GVGateway.net provides this service for any US cell phone numbers, Google Voice numbers, any number reachable through the Google Voice texting service. Users must signup and supply a Google Voice login which is used to send the text messages. Once a user has signed up they are given an email address in the form of 10_digit_phone_number@GVGateway.net. Emails to this phone number are forwarded as text messages.

For messages sent to Google Voice accounts the message is not limited to the typical 160 character limit generally imposed on text messages.

Users can signup and begin using the service which is now available as a free public beta at http://www.GVGateway.net
